What Is DTG Printing ?
Working Principle
The working principle of DTG printing is similar to that of inkjet printing. The printer uses a special printhead to spray water-based ink directly onto fabric. The ink penetrates the fibers and forms a lasting image. Before printing, pretreatment is usually required—especially for dark-colored fabrics—using white ink as a base layer to ensure color vibrancy. This process is similar to priming a wall before painting, preventing the ink from soaking in too quickly and ensuring color accuracy.

Key Steps
Preparation Work
Preprocess the garment by removing wrinkles and aligning the fabric. Then, adjust the design image using computer software and import it into the printer.
Ink Jetting
The printhead jets ink at high speed. Each nozzle controls a specific color, forming the image on the fabric.
Curing
The printed fabric is cured using high heat to fix the ink, bonding it to fibers and enhancing wash durability and colorfastness.
Advantages
High Resolution & Quality
Achieves photo-level detail, suitable for complex, multi-color designs.
Flexibility & Immediacy
No need for plates; supports small-batch, diverse, personalized production.
Low Setup Costs
Uploading a design is enough—no molds or complex prep needed, reducing costs and time.
Eco-Friendly
Mostly uses water-based inks that are non-toxic and low VOC, with minimal environmental impact.
Wide Compatibility
Works on various fabrics including cotton, blends, and synthetics, maintaining strong adhesion and vivid colors.
Limitations
Color Vibrancy Limitations
On dark fabrics, colors are usually less vibrant than on light-colored ones.
Lower Production Speed
Not ideal for large-scale production due to relatively slower print speeds.
Higher Equipment & Ink Costs
Equipment and ink are relatively expensive, and the cost increases when printing large-area designs.

Applications
Personalized Apparel
T-shirts, shirts, hoodies, activewear, etc.
Gift Customization
Pillows, canvas bags, mousepads, etc.
Art Reproduction
Directly printing artwork onto fabric.
Advertising & Promotions
Event T-shirts, exhibition items, etc.

Market Trends
In recent years, with the rise of personalized product demand and digital printing technology, the DTG printing market has shown rapid growth.
By 2025, the global DTG market is expected to reach several billion USD and maintain steady growth. The Asian market especially shows strong potential as mid-level production expands and consumer preferences shift.
